Darvazeh Sangi (Stony Gateway of Khoy)

This gateway or 'darvazeh' is located to the south of the ancient bazaar of Khoy, and was the original gateway of this city to the city of Salmas. Some attribute this relic to the Eilkhanian era and some to the Qajar period. The northern side of the gateway is constructed in brick laid out diagonally, whereas the southern part has been worked in two colored stone, i.e., black and gray alternately, and has turned out in a semi-circular harmony. Under the arch is a simple engraving of two static lions. This gateway is a remnant of the rampart of Khoy city and the surrounding moat has been discovered in the excavation.
