For centuries, Isfahan has been a cornerstone of Persian arts and handicrafts. The province of Esfahan is reputed for its handicrafts and can be considered as an important sector in this regard. Besides its own local products, specialties from other provinces of Iran are also produced here. Since this province is highly favored by tourists, it is an obvious fact that handicrafts play a vital part in this area.

The most important of these are the following: Carpet weaving, brocade weaving, kilim (or a coarse carpet), enamel work, khatam (inlaid work), engraving on metal, silver work, jewelry making, ceramic and tiles and types of sweetmeats, such as 'gaz' and 'souhan'.
 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Mina Kari (Metal Enameling / Enamel-ware)


Minakari (Metal Enameling / Enamel-ware / Vitreous enamel) is a delicate technique of very fine painting of Persian motifs on hammered metal vessels such as plates, vases, chandeliers, etc.
Minakari or Enamelling is the art of painting, colouring and ornamenting the surface of metals by fusing over it brilliant colours that are decorated in an intricate design. Mina is the feminine form of Minoo in Persian, meaning heaven. Mina refers to the Azure colour of heaven.

 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Qalamkari (Persian Calico)

Qalamkari (Persian Calico / Ghalamkari) or stamp printing is an art that has a history of about 800 years in Iran. Cotton, silk, flax, Chelvar (a type of cotton white fabric) and Karbas (a type of white fabric with coarse texture) should be used in Qalamkari. Patterns used in art of Qalamkari include following: historical landscapes, tamed and wild animals, miniature, pictures of ancient Persian literature, inscriptions of poems, historical events.

 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Khatam Kari (Inlaid objects)

Khatam kari (Inlaid objects / Khatamkari) is another handicraft in Isfahan, which is used by skilled artists in the wood industry. Khatam kari is also common in Shiraz and it date backs to the Safavid era. This art is to put together small pieces and triangles of wooden shapes to create beautiful geometric shapes.
They also use materials such as camel or horse bones, gold, silver, aluminum and brass, and also ebony wood, jujube, orange and betel. One of the most beautiful Iranian handicrafts that is mostly found today in Isfahan. This art, like many other arts, culminated in Safavid era due to Shah Abbas’s support of art.

 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Ghalamzani (Ghalam Zani, Engraving, Teurotics or Metal Engraving)

Ghalamzani (Engraving, Teurotics or Metal Engraving) is an ancient Persian craft of engraving intricate designs on metal, from gold and silver to bronze and copper vessels. Isfahan is the main center for this handicraft. The artistic work of this course is made by artists who are the glorious and undeniable indication of Previous metal work of Iranian handicraft and Isfahan , in particular.

 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Firoozeh Koobi (Turquoise inlaying)

Turquoise inlaying (Firuzehkoobi/ Firouzeh Koobi) was invented in Mashhad, but culminated in Isfahan, dating back to 60 to 70 years ago. Turquoise Inlaying (Firouzeh-koobi) on containers includes a copper object on parts of the surface of which small pieces of turquoise are set in mosaic fashion thus giving the object a special glamor. The production of Turquoise Inlaying includes two general stages: Goldsmith is making and preparation of the object intended for Turquoise Inlaying using one of the metals indicated above.

 
Isfahan Handicrafts and Souvenirs: Qollab Doozi (Needlecraft, Crochet and other embroidered stitching)

Qollab Doozi, Needlecraft, Embroidery, crochet, and other kinds of this art are performed by Isfahan Ladies. The raw materials for the creation of these beautiful artwork is handmade textile in different colors and silk threads. Some of them just do simple embroidery and some do it with more design that enhance the price of final product.
