Fariman (capital of Fariman County) came under one of the townships of Mashad in the near past. Fariman is renowned for its sugar factory which has been recently reconstructed.

The city of Friman is located in Razavi Khorasan, 75 kilometers to the south east of Mashhad. It is surrounded by two mountain ranges having Keylagh (2942 meters) and Bibi Gheyb (Bibigheib) (2881 meters) as the highest peaks of the two.

Fariman is one of the oldest settlements in Khorasan region. There have been found archeological remains which belong to the 4th millennium BC, not mentioning the Fariman Caravansary, located on one of the Silk Road division, which connected Sang-Bast to Herat.

Etymologically, Fariman is made of the two roots "Far" and "Man" meaning "glory" and "to be", from the Pahlavi and Avestan. This city was a small village until 1934, a residence to the Timurid clans.

The Eshgh-Abad monument, located 10 kilometers to the west of Fariman ( in Eshgh-Abad village) is the home to shrine of Seyed Nezam  Al-Din – a grandchild of Imam Sajjad (4th Imam of Shi’a). The grave belongs to the Timurid era, however, the main structure dates back to the Ilkhanate and Seljuk (Seljugh) dynasty. The building presents a relatively big porch augmented by pargetting designs on its ceiling.
